Login.gov is committed to being accessible for people with disabilities and other difficulties. Our focus is to continuously improve how people of all abilities are able to use Login.gov to easily access government services and applications.
Standards
General Services Administration's Accessibility Statement sets the following expectations for Login.gov:
- Design to meet or exceed the Section 508 standards
- Conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 as the baseline expectation. We also look to WCAG 2.2 since it lists new success criteria that informs and shapes Login.gov
How we evaluate
Login.gov’s accessibility subject matter experts interpret and evaluate accessibility through three layers:
- Automated testing: Continuous integration testing on every code change using axe-core across our websites & applications
- Semi-automated testing: Accessibility Management Platform across static websites, conducted quarterly
- Manual review: Each product team reviews their websites & applications every sprint
After each evaluation cycle, we develop a plan to address any areas of improvement.
Voluntary Product Accessibility Template / Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT/ACR)
Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPAT) and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACR) are documents that describe how a product meets accessibility standards — including any barriers users may experience. These documents capture the current state of the product rather than acting as a compliance checklist.
While “VPAT” and “ACR” are often interchangeable, there is a difference between them.
- VPAT is a generic template focusing on the criteria, conformance level, and remarks/explanations
- ACR is a more complete version of VPAT, adding the product description, evaluation methods and limitations, notes such as next steps, etc.
Login.gov maintains a VPAT/ACR.
How to request a VPAT/ACR
The most recent version of Login.gov’s ACR is publicly available at login.gov/accessibility.
Login.gov uses VPAT 2.5 Rev 508 (Revised Section 508 Standards edition), developed and maintained by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC).
