Login.gov’s Collaboration with the National Design Studio Moves Forward to Elevate the User Experience for All
Last month, we announced that Login.gov is partnering with the National Design Studio (ND Studio) to implement thoughtful improvements to our end-to-end user journey. This collaboration is an important step in our ongoing mission to make government digital services more accessible, secure, and user-friendly for all.
ND Studio, a leader in public sector design, is working closely with our team to:
- Research user needs and friction points,
- Draft, conduct user acceptance testing, and refine new design concepts,
- Ensure every improvement is beautiful, accessible (508-compliant), and meets Login.gov’s rigorous standards for privacy, security, and performance.
What’s Next? A/B Testing and Your Opportunity to Preview Designs
We have completed an initial round of user testing, and are moving into an A/B testing phase to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed enhancements to the Login.gov user journey. We anticipate testing to begin on September 3rd. During this test, a small percentage of users randomized across all applications will experience the new design while others will continue with the current flow. It’s important to note that the steps in the workflows (e.g. sign-in, identity verification, etc) are not changing, it’s just the visual look-and-feel. Regardless, this approach allows us to gather meaningful data about what works best to ensure we deliver real improvements. To help alleviate any user confusion, we have also created a preview website.
Login.gov and the ND Studio will review the A/B test results together and make refinements before deployment. GSA will continue to guide changes to the service through our usual review processes, including engineering, security, accessibility, privacy, compliance, performance, and product considerations. The goal is to adopt improvements that support a better user experience and align with the needs of the service.
User experience is essential to building public trust and offering seamless, secure access to government services. By collaborating with the ND Studio, we are bringing world-class design principles and fresh perspectives to ensure we meet the ever-evolving needs of our users and partners and support GSA’s commitment to Executive Order 14338: Improving Our Nation Through Better Design.
Interim Program Roadmap Released
As we work toward our next full roadmap, we are sharing a brief update on our progress and near-term priorities. This interim update reflects work underway and provides a current view of where the program is focused today. We will share a more comprehensive update to the Login.gov Program Roadmap at the beginning of fiscal year 2027.
Reports in the Production Partner Portal: Fraud Prevention insights, CSV updates
We are excited to announce fraud insights are available in the Production Partner Portal (P3) Reports page, in addition to Usage data. The fraud insights tab includes what types of blocks users encountered and redress statistics. Additionally, the CSV download has been updated to better align the data descriptions with the displayed insights. Finally, the charts may look a bit different as we’ve updated them to be more accessible.
Keep an eye out in September for additional tabs on the Reports page that will provide authentication and identify verification data.
Please note that this data is intended for operational visibility and is not representative of billing information.
If your agency has not yet migrated and you are interested in transitioning to the new Partner Portal, please contact our team at partners@login.gov.
